PowerBonds “Enhancement of Fiber and Bond Strength Properties for Creating Added Value in Paper Products”
Enhancement of Fiber and Bond Strength Properties for Creating Added Value in Paper Products (PowerBonds) is a WoodWisdom-Net project. It will give answers to the following two questions: “What should we measure to predict paper performance in the end-use applications?” and “How can the performance be improved at the lowest cost”? The largest challenge in this work is that the role of the strength itself in the paper performance in end-use applications is not well understood. Understanding the importance of strength and taking steps towards reducing the grammage based on this understanding therefore is the primary goal in this project. Tasks towards this goal must be executed on the dry and wet tensile strength of the printing and speciality papers and on the dry compressive strength of board which is relevant to packaging applications. Moreover, a systematic study will be launched to find the key parameters controlling the runnability in paper production.
